DIAGNOdent®
DIAGNOdent® is a remarkable laser cavity detection tool
that allows the dentist to spot early decay. Used at our Wayne,
New Jersey practice, DIAGNOdent® gives Drs. DiCicco and Long an advantage to treating cavities by detecting decay very
early. The earlier decay is detected, the easier it is to
eliminate through less invasive forms of treatment.
Due to modern fluoridation, tooth decay has gone "underground."
While helping to improve the health of many Americans,
fluoridation has resulted in harder tooth enamel. Incipient
decay that once began on the tooth's surface has now migrated
below the surface and is more difficult to detect.
DIAGNOdent® is a low-level laser that is used to scan the
teeth for hidden decay. Healthy teeth transmit the light, while
decayed teeth scatter the light. DIAGNOdent® can only be used on
natural tooth enamel and is not appropriate for fillings, crowns
